crusaders-brush-up-on-basics-with-big-give

The Crusaders got their Big Give campaign off to a great start when helping to paint the Ohoka Rugby Clubrooms today.
An enthusiastic team of players and management quickly got into their work in beautiful North Canterbury at the early hour of 7.15am and the first coat was finished about an hour later.
Cups of tea and lovely home-made cakes and pastries made by Ohoka club members were quickly dispatched by the team afterwards and a signing and photographic session followed with young fans.
The Crusaders Big Give is something the team is doing to give back to the community.
There will be two more Big Gives for worthy causes this year: Wednesday, February 4, and Tuesday, February 10.
Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder said: “We are more than happy to do these things for our community. It’s our privilege to represent the Crusaders franchise and we recognise the lengths many fans go to to support us.”

The Crusaders got their Rebel Sport Super 14 pre-season campaign off to a winning start with a 24-19 victory over the Western Force in Perth on Friday night.
With the match played in three 30-minute thirds in front of a sell-out 17,000 crowd at the Members Equity Stadium, the Western Force were leading 19-17 until the start the final third when Crusaders wing Kade Poki went over for a try which was converted by Hamish Gard for the final 24-19 scoreline.
Flanker George Whitelock had got the Crusaders off to a perfect start with a try in the first minute before the Western Force struck back with a penalty try, awarded for a push on Drew Mitchell.
Josh Tatupu scored another try to give the Western Force a 12-5 lead at the end of the first third and the Aussie team stretched their lead in the second third with a try to Luke Holmes which was converted by Scott Daruda. However, the Crusaders struck back with another try to George Whitelock, converted by Colin Slade, and wing Jared Payne kept the momentum going for the Crusaders with a try to narrow the gap to 19-17 at the end of the second third.
Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder was satisfied with the hit-out."The first game's under the belt now and the guys displayed everything that we are looking for," he said. "They showed a lot of desire and physical ability and they tried a few new concepts which us coaches have been introducing to them. Not everything was perfect but the desire was there.
"We were a bit scratchy early. There was a lot of enthusiasm and they were probably trying too hard. We absorbed a lot of pressure and clawed our way back to win the game which was very impressive."
Blackadder said no new injury concerns came out of the match, apart from a few minor cuts.

Ellis off the bench for Crusaders' pre-season match with Perth

http://www.3news.co.nz/News/SportsNews/Ellis-off-the-bench-for-Crusaders-pre-season-match-with-Perth/tabid/415/articleID/87833/cat/71/Default.aspx
Wed, 21 Jan 2009 5:15p.m.

Defending Super 14 champions the Crusaders are on their way to Perth for their first pre-season match.
They will play John Mitchell's Western Force, and coming off the bench will be halfback Andy Ellis in his first major outing since injury shortened his end of season tour with the All Blacks.
The number nine spot in the All Blacks is one of the most fiercely contested.
"You're scared sometimes to pick up a beer and have it," says Ellis. "You hope all the other halfbacks are."

Mindful of the threats posed by the likes of Jimmy Cowan, Piri Weepu, and Brendon Leonard, the 24-year-old is back training after coming home early from the All Blacks' UK tour.
He injured his ribs in the win over Scotland in November.
"I've had a good six weeks to two months off and it's great, we are back in full training and excited."

While some of the squad has been training for months, All Black skipper Richie McCaw is only just back. His last game was for the Barbarians at Wembley early last month.

"Certainly the last couple of weeks it's been tough getting going, but certainly back into it now," says McCaw."The next two weeks has been critical in integrating the All Blacks and looking after them," says Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder.

After the pre-season match against the Force in Perth this Friday, it is onto Timaru for the Crusaders where Ellis should be up against Cowan, the new Highlanders captain.

Prediction time for 2009

Top 14 euro super league takes shape

France's top flight continues to evolve into a European super-league with the world's best players descending on the cash-rich Top 14 clubs as the credit crunch bites elsewhere on the continent. Toulouse power to the title while England stars Danny Cipriani and James Haskell are amongst those to cross the channel. New Zealand skipper Richie McCaw also has a change of heart about a sojourn in the northern hemisphere when Stade Francais boss Max Guazzini sends him a blank cheque - delivered by a knight on horseback.

-> wasn't he cute in pink???

Chatterbox, where are you??

Hey everyone, it's me!
I changed the links and the archive and when i went back to the blog, I realized that the Chatterbox was gone...
I swear on Scotty's head that the only thing I did was changing the links and the archive!!!!!
I know you guys love it (I have to admit that I like it too!)

The solution I can suggest you for the moment, is the forum (not as friendly as the Chatterbox but still there!) : http://richiemccaw.discutforum.com/

I'm working on the issue and have alerted Armand (désolée!)
Love you,

Richie's No.1 in world

http://allblacks.com/index.cfm?layout=displayNews&newsArticle=9307
Sportal.co.nz - 07/01/2009

Richie McCaw is the world's top rugby player according to an international rugby magazine. New Zealand has contributed 12 players to the world's list of the best 50 players in the game. The International Rugby News magazine has listed the world's top 50 players.
First five-eighths Dan Carter is No. 3 after Argentinian first five-eighths Juan Martin Hernandez. In its assessment of McCaw the magazine said:

"Good enough, even, to dismiss the growing platoon of bleaters who suggest he bends the rules to snapping point at the ruck. If McCaw cheated half as much as his critics claimed, he's have a rain forest's worth of splinters in his backside from time in the sin bin."

It also commented that he turned around the disappointment associated with the All Blacks' World Cup demise and came 'as good if not better'.And of Carter the magazine said:

"…the All Black fly-half [first five-eighths] has everthing, precision, panache, pace and power."
Springbok lock Victor Matfield was No.4 and Italy's No.8 Sergio Parisse No.5. The best of the Australians is first five-eighths Matt Giteau is at No.6 and Welsh wing Shane Williams is No.7. South Africa rounds out the top 10 with wing Bryan Habana No.8, and flankers Schalk Burger and Juan Smith at nine and 10 respectively.

Other New Zealanders listed are: Ma'a Nonu (13), Luke McAlister (20), Tony Woodcock (220, Mils Muliaina (28), Joe Rokocoko (31), Nick Evans (32), Conrad Smith (38), Rodney So'oialo (39), Sitiveni Sivivatu (44), Ali Williams (47).

Gliding session

The Aussie team with GlideOmarama gliders, instructors and single seat pilots. Richie McCaw (on the right, looking fit) was back at Omarama and into his Discus 2c within 24 hours of getting home from his highly successful Grand Slam All Black tour of the UK!

Happy New Year!!!
