All Blacks and Crusaders captain Richie McCaw continues to make a steady recovery after he underwent an operation on his fractured right foot.

McCaw was originally scheduled to return this weekend against the Waratahs but suffered the injury earlier this month when he was doing a fitness test.

The initial diagnosis was that the 30-year-old flanker would be out of all rugby for a period of six weeks taking him to around the last week in March.

"He's due to see one of the All Blacks medical staff and do a bit of work and put together some rehab programs, so he's progressing well," Crusaders team manager Tony Thorpe Thorpe told AAP.
"Richie can't do a lot at the moment because he's just got his foot out of the cast and has it in a moonboot but he's been moving about on his crutches and watching training."
