It was a sombre start to the Super 15 match between the Crusaders and Waratahs at Nelson’s Trafalgar Park.
A minute’s silence was observed by both sides in respect for the victims of the Christchurch earthquake.
The Crusaders were also wearing special edition jerseys with the West Coast Rugby Union emblem on them to remember the 29 Pike River miners who lost their life.
